A Pirating We’ll Go: Watch Dogs & Assassin’s Creed IV

Whether it be on sea or through the digital landscape, Ubisoft has gamers covered when it comes to pirating.  Later this fall, they’ll release both Assassin’s Creed IV and Watch Dogs, two games that heavily revolve around the thieving business.  While Assassin’s Creed will feature pirating on the high seas, Watch Dogs will deal its cards more subtly, pertaining to info in the technology arena.

AC IV‘s storyline will, like its predecessors, be split into two separate but related threads. As before, one will take place in the past and the other in the present.”

AC IV‘s storyline will, like its predecessors, be split into two separate but related threads. As before, one will take place in the past and the other in the present. As we follow both plots to their conclusions, new secrets concerning the conflict between the Templar’s and the Assassin’s wars will be divulged. This time however, Ubisoft has granted us a unique look through the Templar’s lens.  We’ll be playing ourselves as Abstergo employees.

That means the present day storyline will revolve around you getting used to your workspace and the Abstergo employee campus.  Newcomers will be introduced to the Assassin/Templar conflict through this mechanic slowly, while return veterans of the franchise will know that there’s definitely questionable going-ons underneath the everyday drug company facade. And sure enough, secrets will be uncovered; you’ll find yourself hacking through computer databases and solving puzzles to unearth the dark secrets of Abstergo.

Watch Dog‘s antihero, on the other hand, will be dealing with more intangible booty. His treasures lie buried deep within the “network cloud,” that ever expanding sea of information that’s growing oh so rapidly day by day.”

While digging up Abstergo’s skeletons, you’ll also be re-living the pirating life of one Edward Kenway, the grandfather of AC III‘s Connor.  As Edward, you’ll have the chance to hunt for buried treasure, commandeer enemies’ ships, and clink mugs of grog with the best of them.  You’ll also run into old pirate favorites like Edward “Blackbeard” Teach and Benjamin Hornigold.

Watch Dog‘s antihero, on the other hand, will be dealing with more intangible booty. His treasures lie buried deep within the “network cloud,” that ever expanding sea of information that’s growing oh so rapidly day by day. In his quest to protect his family, Aiden will hack banks, cause electrical outages, and steal identities in order to succeed in his goals. His “zero hour” mask will help keep his identity concealed, while his colleagues will help him complete his missions.

Come late November, fans will be thieving for both info and gold treasure thanks to Ubisoft. Steel yer courage, men, you’ll need your wits about ye to finish these games.
